This is the theme of South Asian Heritage Month and against the backdrop of the awful racist violence that has been playing out recently, it is such an important message.

South Asian Heritage Month is a time for celebration, education, and appreciation of the rich cultures that make up the South Asian diaspora. While it's a wonderful opportunity for brands to connect with this community, it's crucial to avoid performative marketing. This means going beyond superficial gestures and truly committing to meaningful engagement and representation.

To avoid performative marketing brands should be:

⭕ Centring South Asian Voices: Ensure people from South Asian communities are at the heart of your campaigns. Their insights and perspectives are invaluable.

🗓️ Year-Round Commitment: Support South Asian communities and initiatives throughout the year, not just during Heritage Month.

🌏 Understanding Diversity: Recognise the immense diversity within the South Asian diaspora. Avoid generalisations and stereotypes.
