As we all know the key to effective influencer marketing campaigns is authenticity and engagement. As an agency working on behalf of our brand clients we understand why brands sometimes want to control influencer content it can be nerve-wreaking to give up creative control to someone representing the brand to thousands or even millions of people online. However for content to be authentic and cut through, influencers have to have some creative licence as they know their audiences best.

Rigid briefs can often stifle creativity and authenticity in influencer partnerships. Here's why:

  1. Creativity Suppression:
    • Restricting Ideas: A strict brief can limit the influencer's ability to come up with innovative and engaging content.
    • Killing Authenticity: Influencers are often hired for their unique voice and style. Rigid guidelines can force them to conform, diluting their authenticity.
  2. Reduced Engagement:
    • Forced Content: If an influencer feels constrained by a rigid brief, their content might come across as forced or unnatural. This can lead to lower engagement rates.
    • Audience Disconnect: When influencers are forced to create content that doesn't align with their audience's interests or expectations, it can alienate their followers.
  3. Difficult Collaboration:
    • Frustration: Influencers may become frustrated or demotivated if they feel their creativity is being stifled.

Instead of rigid briefs, consider these approaches:

  • Work with influencers to develop a brief together, allowing for input and flexibility.
  • Provide general guidelines but allow influencers to interpret them creatively.
  • Show trust in the influencer's abilities and empower them to create content that resonates with their audience.

Giving creators more flexibility and allowing them to be creative will drive better results all round.
